HISTORIC SORORITY HOUSE
This historic 1933 house sits on the edge of the University of Rhode Island campus and is home to the Gamma Sigma chapter of Alpha Chi Omega. Ore Studios was asked to renovate and redesign a series of public rooms in the front of the house. These rooms, which serve a variety of social and work functions, needed to better represent the organization, provide flexibility, and hold up to heavy use. The interior envelope was completely refinished to highlight the building’s existing millwork and layout. Since furniture arrangements change frequently to accommodate events, commercial grade textiles were selected to work in multiple combinations. Employing colors and symbols with special significance to the organization, the house has been updated in a way that respects its architecture while addressing the usage and needs of its very contemporary residents.
