Shopkeeper Nicole Desch approached OreStudios to design a tenant infill project for her new retail venture, Heritage Dry Goods. Located in the historic downtown corridor of Eugene, Oregon, the storefront had at various times served as a barbershop, dance studio, and ice creamery.

To revive the original interior envelope, we stripped back years of paint and electrical conduit from the existing brick walls and painted the ceiling a warm, dark gray, minimizing the presence of utilities. New white pine floors were selected for their character and softness; cream-colored enamel lights illuminate the refreshed space. The copper-topped cash wrap comes from the original interior of A.E. Doyle’s 1914 Oregon Electric Station.

The store fixtures are a careful collection of vintage finds cleverly selected from auctions and tag sales.

The pine floor’s character and knots add variation and warmth.

Store shelving was made to fasten directly into the new floors in an effort to preserve the brick walls.
