Colorful Cape Cod
After inheriting an entire housefull of Heywood-Wakefield furnishings following the purchase of their first home, a young family asked Ore Studios to help them with their 1940 Cape Cod. Tasked with the challenge of using the entire set of matched blonde casework, tables, and chairs without letting the resulting spaces look like a retro furniture showroom, we set to work dispersing the inherited pieces throughout the house. Set against a background of neutral grays, blues, and greens, the HW furniture looks fresh and graphic. We then inserted contemporary and vintage pieces in strong jewel tones, demonstrating the homeowner's love of saturated color. Despite the presence of riotous shades of aquamarine, teal, fuchsia, kelly green, and electric yellow, the living room is a balanced, calm space. The adjacent dining room and kitchen riff on combinations of gray and yellow, and gray and green.
